Starting on Monday, Xiamen city in Fujian province will launch a one-and-a-half-month scheme subsidizing farmers who sell their agricultural products at lowered prices.

The subsidy covers 21 categories of farm and sideline products, aiming to stabilize their prices at the market.

Among them, the price of vegetable will be sold 20 percent cheaper than average, and the prices of grain, oil, meat and eggs will be down by 5 percent each, according to the local price bureau.

The fine-tuning came after the consumer price index in May rose by 3.6 percent year on year, and the food price gained 5.7 percent, the bureau said.

The price-cut farm products are available in 71 fair-price stores in the city. Local residents can also make online purchases at www.cnchemicals.com.
